Miss Universe 2018: Africa, Asia and the Pacific Region

During Miss Universe 2017, contestants were classified under three geographical regions namely (1) The Americas, (2) Europe, and (3) Africa & Asia Pacific. Out of 92 candidates, 33 were from The Americas (35%), 27 were from Europe (30%) and 32 were from Africa and Asia-Pacific(35%)

The judges voted for the top 4 candidates from each of the three regions which were a bit unfair, as well as four wildcards regardless of geographical affiliation to advance to the Top 16 round.

With this new format, we have made easy for you to check out the candidates from each region for the upcoming Miss Universe 2018. This could help you out to complete your list of favorites.

Africa & Asia Pacific

This group had slain last year’s edition for penetrating approximately 45% of the Top 16 spot, also the crowned queen was part of this group. Will the victor for this year’s edition also belong to the following candidates? Here are the candidates from Africa and Asia-Pacific, meet them.

Cambodia's Rern Nat has so much potential. She is currently undergoing training by the Kagandahang Flores, one of the pageant camps in the Philippines to develop more of her walking and stage presence. With the proper training and styling, she can slay other Asian beauties.

The 1.79 meters tall Qin Meisu is a renowned model for various brands in different countries. She is the second runner-up of last years' winner and one of the top 16 finalists, Roxette Qiu. The Chinese pageant fans were overwhelmed when Roxette Qiu was announced the 16th last year's Miss Universe. Will Qin Meisu surpassed last years' performance? She has still months to prepare.

For the past years, I am rooting for Indonesia for a higher placement but Sonia Fergina Citra, Indonesia's representative to Miss Universe 2018 is by far their weakest representative since 2013. She needs vigorous training and proper styling if she wanted to regain the placement of Indonesia in the semis of Miss Universe which they enjoyed from 2013 to 2016.

The 18-year old high school student Nikol Reznikov will try to win the Miss Universe crown after 42 years. Many have been comparing her to Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot who won Miss Universe Israel in 2004. With the stiff competition in Miss Universe, she needs to prepare very well for the finals very well if she wanted to win the mikimoto crown.

The last Miss Universe Japan who made the cut of Miss Universe was Ariana Miyamoto in 2015 who challenges the norm and became the first half-black Japanese woman to be named Miss Universe Japan. After two years, Yuumi Kato will try to make her country proud in Miss Universe 2018. She is lovely and has a sweet face beauty but she will be easily overshadowed by the other Asian beauties if she will not train well.

Kazakhstan has yet to place in Miss Universe but I think this country has the potential to do it. Sabina Aizmbayev needs to prepare for the pasarela, the art of walking, which involves the performance aspects of pasarela and public speaking.

Jane Teoh is tall, pretty and has a sunny personality but she needs to be trained properly. I heard through the grapevine that she is a sweet, humble and polite beauty queen. I hope she can make her country proud!

Myanmar is becoming stronger in beauty pageants. I don't see her yet in the semis but hey everyone is excited about Hnin Thway Yu Aung's national costume for the finals.

Manita Devkota is the perfect choice for Miss Universe Nepal 2018. She is tall, intelligent and beautiful. She has what it takes to represent her country but she really needs to work and prepare hard for the pageant.

Catriona Gray is probably one of the few Miss Universe Philippines I have seen that will look good on any hairstyling. She can change her style from sweet to fierce with no sweat. She is a good speaker too. Once she opens her mouth, all you need to do is listen and be amazed by her answer. Throw her a common question and she will give you a response that is genuine, sincere and full of substance. She has the resemblance of Natalie Glebova's beauty, the wit of Lara Dutta and the fierceness of Paulina Vega. Perfection!

H'Hen Nie is gorgeous, with confidence, grace, and an unconventional look that will make her stand out! She only needs to train her communication skills. She can give the other beauties a run for their money. She is truly remarkable!

My Top 4 Candidates

There are still a lot of countries in this region who have not yet crowned their representatives to Miss Universe but among those who have already crowned, I am rooting for the Philippines and Vietnam.

The Philippines' Catriona Gray is a knock-out beauty and a breath of fresh air. A lot of you might disagree with me but she is the best Miss Philippines I have seen in years. She speaks spontaneously, very engaging, and charismatic. Inside out she radiates sincerity. She has a bubbly personality that fits the girl IMG is looking for. With the support of the greatest fans in the world, the Philippines might win it's fourth Miss Universe crown.

H'Hen Niê of Vietnam is rocking that pixie hair absolutely stunning. She is a bit of Kaci Fennell, Miss Universe 2014 4th runner-up from Jamaica. She is under the radar of pageant pundits around the world. Her va-va-voom body, classy, and exotic modern beauty will help her stands out in the pageant. A truly remarkable woman who has a good heart in helping her village.

I am still waiting for the crowing of candidates from South Africa, Australia, Thailand, India and other countries in this region to complete my top 4.

Who do you think will make it from this region?
